TOWARDS AN EFFECTIVE PUBLICITY PROGRAMME
FOR
CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH

Creation of Chapters and Chapels of
CAC Council of Publicity Secretaries

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace, that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that says unto Zion, ‘Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7).

The CAC Publicity Department has come a long way to become what it is today. By December 2005, the Department was 37 years old. The vision of the past and present leaders gave birth to the establishment of this Department in December 1968, and it is this same vision that has sustained it over the years.

The publication of Revival Tidings, Christ Apostolic Magazine, CAC Year Book, CAC Almanac, CAC Diary, Churchman’s pamphlet, etc. and the establishment of the CAC Printing Press are part of the initiative efforts of the Publicity Department. We praise the Lord for the life and ministry of the Mission’s founding Publicity Secretary whose courage and determination nurtured and sustained the Department for many years to make it what it is today. However, while the Mission has expanded very rapidly within the past years, little has been done to equip the Department with the necessary facilities to expand and meet the challenges and demands of this rapid expansion. One of the steps the present administration has taken to arrest this ugly situation is the movement of the Department from Lagos to Ibadan the Missionary Headquarters of the Church.

On its own part the Publicity Department has mapped out some strategies to make the Mission feel the positive impact of its activities. One of these strategies is the establishment of State Chapters and Coordinating Council/Zonal Chapels of CAC Council of Publicity Secretaries (CACCOPS) throughout the Mission in Nigeria. The need for this exercise is informed by the following reasons;

(i) CAC is a very large Mission and her population, size and wide geographically spread call for decentralisation of our publicity activities in order to make it more effective and beneficial to members of the church.

(ii) In the past, when the number of District in the mission was small and transport fare was low, the meeting of CAC Publicity Secretaries used to hold four times a year. With the present number of Districts and high cost of transportation, we observe that it is not only risky but it is also economically unwise to continue with such exercise. Members of the State Chapters can now meet regularly at less risk and cost while national meeting will be once annually during CAC Publicity Week. We have held the first Publicity Week /Conference in August 2005.

(iii) The wide geographical spread of Christ Apostolic Church assemblies and her large membership also call for dynamic grassroots publicity that can foster unity and sense of belonging and raise members’ level of awareness about goings-on in the Mission. This could be achieved if State Chapters and Coordinating Council/Zonal Chapels of CAC Council of Publicity Secretaries are created.

(iv) It is common knowledge that many of our Church Publications do not reach our teeming members. Many of those who get them have to travel long distance to obtain the limited quantity they can conveniently carry. Creation of State Chapters will help bring these publications, particularly Christ Apostolic magazine, nearer to the people.

(v) We are living in a society that is progressively literate; and our Publicity Secretaries must receive relevant training that will keep them fit for their jobs and make them perform with optimal efficiency. Creation of Chapters and Chapels will enable us provide this kind of orientation and exposures through seminaries and other educative programmes that will enhance the performance of our Publicity Secretaries.

The Publicity Department has started planning or organizing annual CAC Publicity Week/Conference, a programme aimed at projecting the good image of the Mission and to high-light the corporate activities of the church through various media of information. We held the first edition between August 1 and 7, 2005 at various levels from Assembly to the National.

Beloved, you would agree with us that these are laudable and progressive programmes which call for massive support of all members of this Church. They are programmes which call for your prayer support and above all, your financial assistance. The task is great and time is limited. The world is moving rapidly to the final years. By December (2008), the CAC Publicity Department will be 40. Before we reach that milestone, we want radical change in the life and performance of this Department. This can be achieved through the help of God and your collective support and contributions. We want to use this medium to request for the fatherly cooperation of Coordinating Council/Zonal Chairmen and District Superintendents for the success of this programme. How? By appointing their Publicity Secretaries and encourage same to attend all our meetings at various levels.

Beloved, this is a clarion call for you to be a part of this progressive vision that is aimed at transforming the lives of millions of people and prepare them for the end time revival and the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Very soon, Officials of this Department will embark on an information and promotional tour to Districts/Zones and Coordinating Councils Headquarters to keep members of the Church informed about our planned programme of activities to raise their level of awareness about the role of publicity in the church and to canvass for their support. Also, Chapters and Chapels of the Council of Publicity Secretaries will be inaugurated at State and Co-ordinating Council/Zonal levels respectively under the auspices of Co-ordinating Council/Zonal Chairmen and Superintendents.

Let us go the memory lane a bit. The Publicity Department of this our Church was established in December 1968 through the vision of our forefathers. The founding Publicity Secretary was Elder (later on Pastor and presently a Trustee of the Church) Ben Okpaise. The vision was to educate, inform and edify the church through publications and media relationship. This brought about the publication of the “Christ Apostolic Magazine” and other journals.

Pastor Okpaise held the rein till 1995 when he handed over the baton to Pastor Taye Odesola. Pastor Odesola continued till December 1999 when he left the office. Pastor Olu. Omoju was appointed in the year 2000. He was transferred to the Sunday School Department t the end of the year 2001. Pastor S.O.Owolabi came on board early in the year 2002. He was relieved of the post later in the year. There was a year vacuum in the year 2003. The present Publicity Secretary was appointed in December 2003 on acting basis and appointment confirmed in February 2006.

We started our decentralization policy in 1997 with the creation of the Lagos State Chapter of CACCOPS. Later on, Oyo State and Osun State Chapter came on board. We have not been able to launch any other State Chapter since December 2002 due to some constrains. Our magazine has improved and will continue to improve more. The Department has improved tremendously since 2003. We now have a complete set of computer, a new video camera, a photographic camera, five video players to help dub our video recordings (when needed), radio, VCD players and others. The number of staff has also increased to six. Thanks to the Church Authority under our achiever President, Pastor Elijah H.L. Olusheye for the great support, concern and improvement.

As much as we are thanking our fathers in the Lord for the encouragement and care, like Oliver Twist we will continue to ask for more. Therefore, we are listing below some of our needs.

Some of our present needs are:

(1)  Vehicles (car and bus)
(2)  Office Equipment
(3)  Video Camera and Accessories
(4)  Sets of Computer-preferable  DTP
(5)  Cash donations
(6)  Overhead Projector
